Description

The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Christ the King is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Banja Luka, located at Srpska Street 26. The land for the church was purchased in 1930, and the first church was built in 1932 — however, it was destroyed during the bombing of Banja Luka in 1944 during the Second World War. The new church was designed by architect Pavle Paštar in 1990, and construction began in 1998.

The church's floor plan is in the shape of an inscribed cross, and at the intersection of the arms sits a distinctive onion dome on a circular drum, alongside three smaller onion domes above the altar space. The facades are plastered in blue with prominent white decorative elements, giving the church a striking and unique appearance. Although the masonry work was completed in 2010, the church has not yet been fully finished, but has already become an unmissable tourist and architectural landmark of Banja Luka.
