Description

Safikada's Grave is one of the most romantic and most sorrowful places in Banja Luka, located directly opposite the Kastel Fortress. The legend tells of the beautiful Safikada, a young girl in love with a Turkish soldier named Omer, whose love her parents forbade, fearing that war would separate them forever. Yet their love continued to grow, and the worst fears were soon realized — Omer went to battle and never returned.

When news of his death reached Banja Luka, Safikada put on her wedding dress, stood before the cannon on Kastel Fortress that marked noon, and with the cry "I am faithful to him!" ended her life, remaining true to her vow until her final breath. The grave where she was buried has for years drawn young women in love who light candles and whisper prayers for faithful love. Safikada's Grave is not merely a tourist destination — it is an eternal symbol of love that knows no boundaries, not even death.
