Description

The Radimlja Stećci Necropolis is one of the most important and beautiful medieval monument complexes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Located near Stolac, it is renowned for its large number of richly decorated stećci tombstones featuring relief depictions of people, animals, hunting scenes, crosses, and other symbols. Due to its historical and cultural significance, Radimlja was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the collective heritage of medieval stećci tombstones.

What Can You Find Here?

The stećci at Radimlja feature numerous motifs that provide insight into the life, beliefs, and culture of medieval Herzegovina. The most famous is the figure of a man with a raised right hand, believed to symbolize a greeting, an oath, dignity, or the status of the deceased. Other carvings include hunting scenes with horsemen, dogs, and deer, knightly tournaments and battles, traditional circle dances, and many other fascinating depictions.
