Ramsko Lake
Description
Rama Lake, often called the pearl of Herzegovina, is a vast reservoir on the Rama River in the Prozor-Rama municipality. It was created in 1968 with the building of the Rama hydropower plant, and today it takes the breath away with its huge expanse of blue dotted with islands and peninsulas. It is about 12 kilometres long, up to 95 metres deep, and ringed by the Raduša, Makljen, Ljubuša and Vran mountains.
The most recognisable feature is the Šćit peninsula, shaped like a guitar, home to a Franciscan monastery, an ethnographic museum and a gallery. Thanks to its crystal-clear water and quiet nature, the lake is ideal for swimming, kayaking, fishing and cycling – the trail around the lake is 34 kilometres long. Its conditions even attract national rowing teams. It is about 70 km from Mostar and a hundred from Sarajevo, a perfect calm multi-day getaway far from the crowds.
