Lake Boračko

12.3 km to the city center

Description

Boračko Lake, an emerald gem at the north-eastern foot of Mount Prenj, is the only glacial lake in this part of Herzegovina. It lies at 397 metres above sea level, is elliptical in shape, 786 metres long and 402 metres wide, and its clear green water is transparent down to about eight metres. In summer, when the August temperature reaches a pleasant 25 °C, the lake becomes a favourite bathing and outing spot for the people of Konjic, Sarajevo and Mostar.

It is just 20 kilometres from Konjic, linked by a paved road. The lake is known for its rich biodiversity and is a true paradise for anglers – home to carp, zander, chub, trout and freshwater crayfish, while its shores are adorned with water lilies and reeds. The Šištica stream flows out of it and, through a gorge, plunges into the Neretva over a 30-metre waterfall.

Best time: summer (swimming), spring and autumn for walks
Lodging: hotels, apartments, bungalows and a campsite
Car access: paved road to the shore, ~20 km from Konjic
Water temperature: up to 25 °C in August

Activities at the Lake

The lake offers a perfect combination of relaxation and adventure — from swimming in crystal-clear green water during summer and fishing for carp, pike-perch and trout, to walking and cycling along the 2.4 km long shoreline. Thrill-seekers can enjoy quad biking and canoeing, while runners will find ideal trails along the water's edge.

Perfect for Families

The shallow and warm summer water makes the lake an ideal spot for the youngest visitors, while the campsite and bungalows along the shore offer an unforgettable overnight stay in nature. A campfire by the lake is the perfect way to end every day spent in this peaceful corner, far away from the city buzz.
