Koćuša Waterfall

9.5 km to the city center

Description

The Koćuša Waterfall is one of the most beautiful natural gems of Herzegovina, nestled in the quiet village of Veljaci in Ljubuški municipality, not far from Mostar. It forms on the river Mlada, and the tufa barriers the water has built over centuries give it a distinctive character – five metres high and fifty metres wide, making it one of the broadest waterfalls in this part of BiH.

Its force is felt from a distance: the roar fills the surroundings, while fine spray refreshes on the hottest days. Beside the falls stand old mills and fulling mills that were part of everyday life here for centuries, giving Koćuša a special, almost fairy-tale feel. The rich flora and fauna attract naturalists and photographers, while the green belt along the bank offers shade and a touch of untouched nature. Koćuša is well worth a visit for anyone passing through this part of Herzegovina.
