Roman Baths
Description
Right in the heart of Laktaši, just beside the modern bustle, lie the remains of Roman baths that bear witness to two millennia of hedonism. The archaeological site of Zidine preserves the foundations of a public bath from the 1st to the 4th century, revealing a fascinating underfloor heating system, the so-called hypocaust, which the ancient Romans used to heat water and rooms.
These thermal baths were not just a place for hygiene, but true ancient "wellness and fitness" centers. Along with pools of hot and cold water, there were rooms for exercise, massage, and socializing, open to everyone. The discovered fragments of brick and glass bring to life a picture of a time when caring for body and mind was a way of life. Today, these preserved walls stand as an inseparable link between ancient tradition and the modern spa culture for which Laktaši is widely known.
