Description

Drenova Lake is an artificial reservoir located about 10 km from Prnjavor, along the Prnjavor–Čelinac regional road, between the villages of Drenova and Donji Vijačani. It was created in 1978 by building a 15 m high and 320 m long dam in the valley of the Drenova stream. The water level is at 167 m a.s.l., and the maximum depth is about 6.5 m. The lake supplies water to the town of Prnjavor.

The lake has been declared a fishing reserve by the Sports Fishing Association of RS and is managed by SRD Prnjavor. Trophy-sized catfish, carp, grass carp, and zander are caught in the lake. Record catfish catches weigh 104 and 96 kilograms, and carp and grass carp weighing up to 30 kg have been caught. The season opening takes place on the first Sunday in June. Benches and tables are set up along the shore, and the lake is surrounded by coniferous forest, making it ideal for rest, barbecues, and short hikes.

A paradise for catfish anglers

Drenova Lake is not popular by chance — it is one of the most attractive fishing spots in the Banja Luka region, and probably beyond. A 104-kilogram, 238-centimeter catfish, caught in a single night, now stands as a mounted specimen in the SRD premises in Prnjavor. Alongside it, carp and grass carp weighing up to 30 kilograms have been recorded, as well as a series of catches that would justify any night spent keeping watch on the shore.

The coniferous forest around the lake, the clean water, and the organized fish-guard service make Drenova a fishing paradise managed by SRD Prnjavor under special rules — because the lake is also the water intake for the entire Prnjavor area.
