Tribistovo Lake
Description
Halfway between Posušje and the mountain plateau of Rakitno lies Lake Tribistovo – a peaceful water oasis that serves as a gateway to Blidinje Nature Park. Created in 1989 as a drinking water reservoir, this lake has over time become much more than an infrastructure project; today it is a refuge for anglers, walkers, and all those seeking the peace of the Herzegovinian karst.
With a length of about 500 meters and a depth reaching up to 10 meters, Tribistovo fits perfectly into the landscape of the surrounding hills. The color of the water changes with the seasons, following the rhythm of nature – from crystal clarity in spring to calm, shallow tones during the hot summer days. The lake’s location right by the road to the famous ski resort makes it an ideal place for a short break and a recharge before heading up to Blidinje.
For fishing enthusiasts, Tribistovo is a well-kept secret. The lake is rich in fish, and its clear water hides rainbow trout, carp, crucian carp, and chub. Among local anglers, stories still circulate about legendary catches that testify to the potential of these waters. Carp from the depths: the catch of Božo Baga is remembered, whose carp weighed an impressive 9 kilograms.
The record for the largest rainbow trout belongs to Brankica Biško from Posušje, with a specimen weighing as much as 4 kilograms.
Whether you are heading to Blidinje for skiing or simply want to escape the summer heat of Posušje, Lake Tribistovo offers a view that soothes the eyes. Its shores invite you to take a leisurely walk, while the surrounding silence provides a rare sense of isolation and connection with nature.
