Gypsy Door
Description
Located on the eastern edge of Čvrsnica Mountain, at a dizzying altitude of 2,000 meters, Hajdučka Vrata represents one of the most beautiful and most recognizable natural phenomena in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This geomorphological natural monument, protected since 1985, is in fact a natural stone arch approximately five meters in diameter, formed over centuries by the action of wind, frost, and rain. From this spot, a spectacular view unfolds over the canyon of Diva Grabovica, an incredible 1,800 meters deep, while in the distance the sharp peaks of the "Herzegovinian Himalayas" — Mount Prenj — come into view.
Beyond its breathtaking beauty, Hajdučka Vrata is also known as Mijatov Prolaz — Mijat's Pass — named after the legendary outlaw Mijat Tomić. According to folk tradition, this area served as a refuge for outlaws, and legend has it: young men who wished to join the outlaw band had to pass through this stone ring. It was believed that whoever passed through the gate became fearless and "immune to bullets."
Passing through the gate symbolized a break with one's old life and an entry into the world of harsh mountain freedom.
