Jezero Kop Plane-Šići
Description
Lake "Kop" in Šićki Brod is one of the finest examples of nature and environmental awareness triumphing, having been transformed from a former open-pit mine into a true nature park and a favorite retreat for the people of Tuzla. Created in 1987, this spacious lake, 800 meters long and 400 meters wide, captivates visitors with its indented shores full of hidden coves and rich aquatic vegetation. With an impressive depth reaching up to 35 meters and recent stocking with carp, "Kop" has become an essential destination for recreational and competitive fishing, as well as for all those seeking peace in the silence of untouched nature.
Thanks to the long-standing efforts of activists and enthusiasts, this site was preserved from industrial pollution and today proudly stands as a zone of clean water and fresh air. While plans are in place for the future construction of a modern recreation area with cycling paths and supporting facilities, the lake already offers a perfect natural setting for escaping the city bustle. Especially attractive in spring and autumn, Lake Šićki Brod is proof that joint effort can transform a place and create a precious treasure for generations to come.
From mine to gem
Where machines worked for decades and coal was extracted, carp now swim. Šićki Brod Lake was formed in 1987 on its own — after the open-pit mine was closed, underground springs and rainwater slowly filled the crater. Seven known springs and a series of underground inflows guarantee a stable water level and water quality that laboratory analysis classified as Category I — meaning the cleanest lake in the entire Tuzla Canton.
The rugged mining landscape with coves and bays overgrown with vegetation gives the lake a unique character that anglers recognize as a fishing spot they can rarely find elsewhere.
