Župica Lake
Description
Prekajsko Lake, also known as Župica Lake, is an artificial reservoir on the Unac River, located 17 km upstream from Drvar in Prekaja near the village of Župica. It was created in the second half of the 20th century by building a dam 24.74 m high and 692 m wide, in order to store water for the needs of Drvar's pulp and paper industry.
With the closure of part of the factory, its original purpose ended, and the lake was repurposed as a recreational destination. It covers an area of 2 km², with no built tourist infrastructure. It is surrounded by lush forests and mountain peaks between Drvar and Bosansko Grahovo. The lake has been stocked with fish — carp and chub live there, and sources also mention trout and catfish. Access is by road from Drvar. Local environmental initiatives regularly clean the shores and encourage biodiversity. The lake is an ideal destination for eco-tourism, fishing, camping, boating, and hiking through the surrounding forests.
