Štrbački Buk Waterfall
Description
Štrbački Buk is the tallest and most spectacular waterfall in Una National Park, standing 24.5 meters high, located on the Una River whose emerald-blue color was no accident in inspiring the Romans to exclaim "una, una" — the one and only. Formed by tectonic shifts and the creation of tufa deposits, the waterfall features an upper and lower section, creating a grandiose spectacle that can be heard before it can be seen — the thunderous sound of water breaking everything before it is the announcement of something unforgettable.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the banks of the waterfall were adorned by numerous Una mills resembling pile dwellings, wooden structures of the prehistoric Japodian tribe who lived in this area for the last 1,000 years of the old era.
Today, well-maintained educational trails and information boards guide visitors right up to the waterfall, and the final unpaved road only enhances the sense of adventure and unspoiled nature. No one has ever left indifferent.
