Osobac Prenj Via Ferrata
Description
The Osobac via ferrata on Mount Prenj is one of the most ambitious and demanding ferratas in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina—and in every sense of the word. At 1,200 meters in length, with a 480-meter elevation gain and an average completion time of 3 hours, this is not a weekend outing for the inexperienced—it is an undertaking that requires a mentally and physically prepared person who knows what they are doing on the rock. The route begins with a vertical section to an overhanging chimney, continues along a steep slab to a prominent ridge, and then follows the distinct ridge through dense undergrowth all the way to the summit of Mali Osobac — and that's only half the story.
From Mali Osobac, the ferrata continues toward the summit of Veliki Osobac, offering panoramic views of Prenj, Lake Boračko, and the surrounding mountains that reward every hard-earned meter of ascent. Near the entrance to the ferrata is the Jezerce mountain hut with a spring of drinking water—an ideal spot to rest and prepare before tackling the route. The 2.5-hour approach hike, which includes a section through a mine-suspect area where you must strictly stay on the marked trail, makes Osobac one of the most logistically demanding ferratas in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
