Description

Nestled on the southern slopes of Bjelašnica at a remarkable 1,495 meters above sea level, Lukomir is the last authentic mountain village in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a kind of living ethnographic museum. This settlement, whose roots stretch back to the 14th century, is recognizable by its unique architecture of stone houses with shingle roofs, adapted to the harsh mountain climate and a nomadic way of life. Although it is inhabited only seasonally due to heavy snowfall (from May to October), Lukomir offers visitors an extraordinary blend of historical heritage and natural grandeur, perched directly above the 800-meter-deep canyon of the Rakitnica River. Today this village is an unmissable destination for lovers of rural tourism, where alongside traditional specialties and authentic handicrafts of the Čomor and Masleša families, visitors can experience the spirit of ancient times and unspoiled mountain freedom.
