Description
Apparition Hill, located a few hundred meters above the hamlet of Podbrdo in Bijakovići, is considered the very heart of the Medjugorje events. According to the testimonies of the visionaries, this is the place where the first apparitions of Our Lady began in June 1981. For millions of pilgrims from around the world, this steep and rocky ascent is not only a physical challenge, but also a profound spiritual encounter with Our Lady through personal prayer and the communal recitation of the rosary.
The ascent to the apparition hill itself is enriched by the artistic works of Professor Carmelo Puzzolo, which serve as meditation guides for pilgrims. Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries: Bronze reliefs installed in 1989 line the path from the base to the summit, inviting the faithful to reflect on key moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary.
The Glorious Mysteries: Installed in 2002, this series of reliefs is located on the path that leads downwards from the site of the apparitions towards the Blue Cross.
