White Mosque
Description
The White Mosque, popularly known as Džedid, rises proudly on the Kolobara hill as one of the most beautiful symbols of spirituality and architectural elegance in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its name, “Džedid,” meaning new in Ottoman Turkish, bears witness to the centuries-long continuity of religious life in Brčko, while historical records of its restoration as early as 1893 speak of the long tradition of this massive building with its slender stone minaret.
After being completely destroyed in 1992, the mosque rose again in all its glory in 2005, combining traditional aesthetics with the modern needs of the community through a contemporary complex that includes a mekteb and a multipurpose hall. Today, this snow-white beauty is not only the central place of worship of the Tuzla Muftiate, but also an essential part of the cityscape, captivating every passer-by with its harmony and peace.
