City Hall
Description
The City Hall in Brčko, built in 1892, stands as a magnificent triumph of pseudo-Moorish architecture and one of the most important symbols of Austro-Hungarian heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Designed by the renowned architects Aleksandar Vitek and Ćiril Iveković, this building was completed even before the famous Sarajevo City Hall, which clearly speaks to Brčko’s strategic and commercial importance within the Monarchy at the time.
With its lavish facade decorations, distinctive domes, and exotic ornamentation above the windows and doors, the Town Hall dominates the city’s urban landscape as a national monument of the highest category. Over the decades, various institutions have passed through its halls—from the municipal administration and the Sava captaincy to the post office—but to this day it remains the city’s most representative guardian of identity and an essential jewel of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s architectural heritage.
