Bistričak Excursion Site
Description
Bistričak excursion area is located about 25 km southwest of Zenica, at an altitude of 430 m, on an area of about 50,000 m². At the foot, the Ograjina stream and the Bistrička River meet, forming the Bistričak River, which flows into the Bosna six kilometers downstream. Surrounded by deciduous and coniferous forests with the sound of streams, Bistričak offers an ideal setting for rest, fishing, camping, hiking, and mountain biking along the Ograjina stream.
The complex once included the Bistričak guesthouse with a restaurant (80 seats), a summer terrace (130 seats), a TV room, a meeting room, and sports facilities: football, handball, and basketball courts, a bocce court, table tennis, and an amphitheater. The complex was owned by the former Željezara Zenica, now in bankruptcy, and the property and legal issues are the subject of court proceedings. The natural beauty still attracts visitors, especially on May 1st.
Nature waiting to be discovered
Bistričak is one of those places that nature keeps alive despite everything. The streams and the Ograjina River continue to attract visitors who come for the same things as always — clean air, silence, and the sound of water. Every year on May 1st the excursion area comes alive, and photos from Bistričak on social media show that its potential has never gone away — it is just waiting for someone to make use of it.
