Description

The Zenica Synagogue, built between 1903 and 1905, is one of the most precious architectural and cultural symbols of Zenica. It was designed by engineer Miloš Komadina in the distinctive pseudo-Moorish style, giving it a striking exterior that bears witness to the city’s rich multicultural past. From its consecration in 1906 until the beginning of the Second World War, the synagogue was the spiritual center of the Jewish community, only to suffer severe devastation during the turbulent war years. Today, thanks to an agreement with the Jewish Community, this temple serves as the home of the first permanent exhibition of the Zenica City Museum, preserving the memory of the history and ethnology of this region within its walls.
