Bliha Waterfall
Description
Blihe Waterfall, also known as Blihin Skok, is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located just about fourteen kilometers from Sanski Most. The Bliha River, a small left tributary of the Sana only about twenty kilometers long, shows all its power and character at this one spot – plunging from a height of about fifty meters into a deep basin beneath the rock, creating a deafening roar and a cloud of fine droplets that refresh visitors. The waterfall is protected as the "Blihin Waterfall" Nature Park and is part of the rich natural heritage of this region. In the immediate vicinity are old mills that still operate today, and a maintained trail along the river leads to the waterfall itself.
Besides the waterfall, in the wider Sanski Most area it is also worth visiting Dabar Cave – a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose spring and the Dabar River, untouched for thousands of years, offer an experience of pristine nature.
The Legend of Bliha and Zdena
The name of the river and waterfall carries a sad and beautiful story. According to legend, long ago two twin sisters, Bliha and Zdena, lived in these parts and were widely known for their beauty. Their twin brothers, in order to keep the sisters' wealth and beauty, decided to take them as wives. Unable to bear such a burden, the sisters each chose to jump from one side of the mountain. Where they fell, two rivers began to flow, as clear and beautiful as they were: Bliha and Zdena.
