Čvrsnica Mountain
Description
Čvrsnica is one of the highest and most impressive mountains in Bosnia and Herzegovina, often called the „roof of Herzegovina“ for its sheer scale. Its highest peak, Pločno (2,228 m), is also the highest summit of the central Dinarides, and the massif counts several more peaks above 2,000 metres. It lies in the northern part of Herzegovina, on the right bank of the Neretva, and forms the backbone of Blidinje Nature Park. The mountain is almost entirely forested, from hornbeam at its foot to Bosnian and mountain pine near the top.
Čvrsnica also hides natural phenomena: the Hajdučka vrata rock arch, protected since 1985, and Veliki Kuk, with cliffs around 1,300 metres high – the largest rock face in the Balkans. From its heart stretches the deep Diva Grabovica canyon. Thanks to its beauty and network of trails, Čvrsnica is a favourite for hikers across the region in every season.
