Church of St. Elijah the Prophet
Description
The Church of Saint Prophet Elijah in Puračić is one of the most important spiritual and cultural landmarks of the municipality of Lukavac. Built in 1903, this single-nave building with a bell tower was constructed of small bricks and is distinguished by its harmonious proportions and recognizable architectural elegance. Due to its exceptional historical and artistic value, the church, together with its movable heritage, was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The interior of the temple preserves priceless spiritual heritage, including a large wooden iconostasis with 14 icons painted in oil on canvas, which dominates the space with a height of over five meters. In addition to the iconostasis, the national monument also includes the church throne, a symbolic depiction of the Fiery Chariot, a wooden cross, and a composition of Saint Sava and an icon of the Prophet Elijah. With a bell tower 18.50 meters high, this church is not only an architectural ornament of Puračić but also a living guardian of the Orthodox iconographic tradition of the Zvornik-Tuzla Eparchy, attracting believers and visitors with its serenity and historical depth.
