Parish of St. Anthony of Padua
Description
The Church of Saint Anthony of Padua in Lukavac is not just a religious building, but a true architectural masterpiece that proudly holds the title of a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Located north of the railway line, on Lukavačkih brigada Street, this church bears witness to the rich industrial and cultural development of Lukavac in the early 20th century. Its founding in 1910 is directly linked to the requests of the believers of the time and the generous support of the Soda Factory, reflecting the inseparable connection between the city’s economy and spiritual life.
The architectural brilliance of the church is thanks to Karlo Paržik, one of the most important builders who shaped the face of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Designed in 1928 in the spirit of Neo-Romanesque style, the church captivates with its harmonious composition of volumes and characteristic arcades beneath the eaves. Together with the parish house, designed by Tuzla architect Florijan Strauss, this complex forms a complete whole that is in excellent condition thanks to recent restorations and the construction of a drainage system. As one of 15 parishes in Bosnia and Herzegovina dedicated to the beloved saint, the Church of Saint Anthony of Padua remains an essential stop for all lovers of history and sacred art visiting this part of the country.
