Hrast Lake
Description
Hrast Lake, also known as Glamoč Lake, is the largest lake in the municipality of Glamoč, located in Glamoč Field at an altitude of 920 m, just 3 km from the center of Glamoč. The lake covers an area of 25,000 m². Nearby there are two more smaller lakes: Šatorsko Lake (8,000 m²) and Busija Lake (4,000 m²). Glamoč Field is surrounded on all sides by high karst mountains, and its hydrology is typically karstic — with a lack of surface water, vast mountain pastures, and large forest complexes.
Along the main road not far from the lake stands a gravestone dating from 1798 — Bašića bašluk. A few hundred meters farther on Gradina, near the village of Podgradina, there is a stećak on a stone base and three stone piljaks; it weighs about three tons, and it is not known how it was placed there.
Karst gem on the plateau
Glamoč Field is one of the largest karst fields in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Hrast Lake is its only larger body of water. At an altitude of 920 meters, surrounded by mountain ranges and vast pastures typical of the Dinaric plateau, the lake is a rare gem in a landscape that otherwise suffers from a lack of surface water. In the immediate vicinity there are two more smaller lakes — Šatorsko and Busija — which makes this part of Glamoč Field the only area in the municipality with a concentration of lake surfaces.
