Description

Šatorsko Lake is of glacial origin and covers about 8,000 m², located on Mount Šator at an altitude of 1,480 m. The best access is from the direction of Bosansko Grahovo. This mountain lake is a true natural gem, surrounded by dense forests and vast pastures.

On the shores of the lake, a rare alpine endemic plant - edelweiss - can be seen, while the waters themselves are home to another important alpine endemic species, the tailed amphibian (triton), which survives only in clean and untouched aquatic environments. During the summer, visitors can cool off in the clear, cold water, and in winter they can sometimes even have snowball fights from the nearby Šator sinkholes.

There is a functioning summer motel next to the lake, and plans are also in place to restore the bungalows, which will further improve the tourist offer of this attractive site.

Šator Mountain, 1,488 m a.s.l.; Bosansko Grahovo,
Dimensions: length 200–337 m; width 100–127 m; depth 6–8 m
Temperature: summer 17–20 °C (swimming)

The Lake That Changes Color

Šatorsko Lake has no single color — it is alive. Depending on the angle of the sun and the time of day, it changes from blue-green to dark olive, thanks to the potamogeton plant that covers the bottom and rises almost to the surface, creating an underwater forest. The water clarity reaches four meters, giving swimmers the feeling of floating above a green meadow.

On three sides, the lake is surrounded by the cliffs of Veliki Šator and Mali Šator and Babina Greda, with a height difference of 400 meters. The impressive Vražji Vrtovi on Babina Greda and the dwarf pine on the northern slopes complete a scene that few mountain locations in Bosnia and Herzegovina can offer.
