Ledenica Cave
Description
Ledenica Cave is located in the village of Resanovci, just 4 km from the Drvar – Bosansko Grahovo main road, not far from the border with Croatia. It was once one of the most visited natural attractions in the area, with more than 150,000 visitors a year, while today it is visited in controlled conditions with guides.
It was mentioned as early as 1878 by the English archaeologist Arthur J. Evans, who wrote that the caves of this area served the local population as a source of water and as shelter. Later research, especially by Professor Lazarević, revealed its exceptional value and gave names to its halls and cave formations.
Ledenica is among the most attractive caves in the region and Europe, and is especially known for its wealth of calcite formations. Its interior features numerous halls, chimneys, sinkholes, and impressive cave deposits that create a unique atmosphere. So far, about 700 meters with 13 halls have been explored, while it is believed that the cave may be up to 20 kilometers long in total.
Because of its beauty, rich cave formations, and mystical atmosphere, Ledenica leaves a strong impression on every visitor and is a true natural gem of the region.
