Tvrtkovac Mountain
Description
Located not far from Zenica, Tvrtkovac is a mountain with a deep historical imprint, with its highest peak at 1,304 metres above sea level. It is believed to have been named after the first Bosnian king, Tvrtko I Kotromanić, for whom this mountain was a key strategic stronghold because of its proximity to the royal seat of Bobovac. In addition to its royal past, Tvrtkovac was also significant in more recent history, serving as the headquarters of the Zenica Partisan Detachment and as an important logistical and military stronghold during the war in the 1990s. Today, this mountain is an oasis of peace and natural beauty, known for its rich conifer forests and the hospitality of hikers.
In the heart of this mountain, at 704 metres above sea level, lies one of the most beautiful mountain lodges in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is managed by the Mountaineering Society "Tvrtkovac," founded in 1969 by healthcare workers from Zenica.
