Ethno Village Stanišići
Description
Just outside the exit from Bijeljina lies Ethno Village Stanišići, a place that seems to stand outside of present time. This complex inspires admiration for the simplicity of life in the past, offering rest for both the eyes and the soul, accompanied by the soothing sound of a stream and the gentle noise of watermills. The village is divided into two units that revive the spirit of the past through wood and stone.
The first unit presents secular life through authentic wooden log houses, connected by cobblestone paths that surround two central lakes. Here you can find a dairy house, a blacksmith’s workshop, a granary, and old watermills dating back to 1917 and 1937, which still grind flour for traditional homemade flatbreads today. Each building preserves centuries-old household items and traditional costumes, conveying the scent and warmth of old hearths.
The second, spiritual unit is built in stone and radiates medieval architecture. Its center is adorned by the Monastery of Saint Father Nicholas, a faithful replica of the endowment of the Nemanjić dynasty – the Kumanica Monastery. Alongside the monastery residence, this part of the village reflects deep roots and tradition, offering visitors the opportunity to find peace and wisdom in a noble setting rarely found in the modern world.
