Bočac Fortress
Description
Bočac Fortress, also known as Old Town Bočac, is a medieval fortress in the municipality of Mrkonjić Grad. It is located on a rocky hill above the Vrbas River, the dam and the Bočac reservoir, right next to the Banja Luka – Jajce road. Because of its position above the Vrbas Canyon, the fortress played an important strategic role in controlling the river valley and communications through this part of Krajina. Sources state that it was part of a chain of medieval defensive points in the Vrbas valley, together with fortifications such as Zvečaj, Greben and Jajce.
