City Hall
Description
This magnificent building from 1888 is one of the finest examples of pseudo-Moorish style in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to its decorative richness and striking appearance, it ranks among the most harmonious buildings in the entire country. In 2006, the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments in Sarajevo adopted a decision declaring the historic building – the City Hall in Novi Grad – a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Today, the building of the Old City Hall houses a museum and the tourist organization of the municipality of Novi Grad.
As a blend of history and elegance, the City Hall is not only a museum, but the heart of the city’s cultural identity and an essential stop for every traveler who wants to feel the spirit of the Austro-Hungarian era. One of the most valuable items in the museum is a facsimile edition of the Miroslav Gospel.
