Kozara National Park
Description
Kozara National Park, known as the Beauty of the Krajina, lies in the heart of the mountain of the same name in north-western BiH. Although Kozara's peaks do not exceed a thousand metres, the mountain captivates with its expanse, dense deciduous and coniferous forests, clear streams and gentle viewpoints overlooking the Krajina. Declared a national park back in 1967, it protects rich nature with hundreds of plant species and many animals such as roe deer, wild boar, wolves and foxes.
The park's centre is the Mrakovica plateau, about twenty kilometres from Prijedor, where a memorial zone with a museum also stands. Today Kozara is a real haven for active holidays: it offers marked walking and cycling trails, a sport-climbing crag, a ski centre and many events throughout the year. With fresh mountain air and untouched nature, visitors here find both peace and adventure in one place.
Cycling (MTB trails)
The park has four marked MTB trails running along asphalt, gravel and forest roads. They suit both recreational riders and experienced cyclists looking for a thrill amid beautiful mountain scenery.
Ski centre
In winter Kozara offers three ski slopes with lifts, including a floodlit run for night skiing. Instructors, equipment rental and snow cannons are available, so the fun is guaranteed for beginners and children alike.
Sport climbing
At the Zečiji Kamen site there is a climbing crag with about thirty routes from 10 to 60 metres long. It is a favourite spot for free-climbing fans and a real treat for adventurers.
Educational activities
At the park's centre on Mrakovica stands a museum that hosts engaging history lessons and educational programmes. Alongside exploring nature, visitors can also learn about the region's rich past.
