Osman-kapetan Medresa

Located in the very heart of the bazaar, yet sheltered by its own peace, Osman-kapetan's madrasa is one of the most beautiful and recognizable symbols of Gračanica. Founded in 1800 as a waqf of Osman-kapetan Gradaščević, the father of the famous Dragon of Bosnia, it acquired its present appearance in 1889, drawing attention as an outstanding example of pseudo-Moorish architecture.

Once one of the most prestigious educational institutions in the country, attracting students from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the madrasa has today been transformed into a lively cultural and social center. Its courtyard, home to the traditional event "Summer Evenings Under the Linden Trees of Gračanica," along with an authentic Bosnian coffeehouse and the premises of associations such as "Gračaničko keranje," offers visitors the perfect blend of historical atmosphere and modern city life.
