Strigova Stream
Description
The Strigova stream, which rises from the Kriva rijeka and ends its course by flowing into the Una near Mrakodol, is a true hidden gem of the hilly landscape. Its flow is dynamic and exciting—while in the upper course it plays over cascades, in the lower course it hides deep whirlpools.
However, what makes Strigova a phenomenon happens every April. Then this stream becomes the stage for an incredible natural spectacle: the spawning of nase. A large number of fish travel from the Sava and Sana into the Una, and then choose Strigova as their only natural spawning ground in the region. The ten days the fish spend in its riverbed create a sight that is unforgettable.
This untouched oasis of nature offers a unique opportunity to witness the primal force of life in the heart of a landscape that captivates with its peace.
A phenomenon that repeats every year
Every year at the beginning of April, something unusual happens on the Strigova. Large numbers of nase fish move from the Sava and Sana, swim upstream along the Una, and then turn into this small river, where they stay for about ten days to spawn. This annual ritual makes the Strigova the only natural fish spawning ground in the entire region — a rare phenomenon that attracts anglers and nature lovers who come to watch this migration up close, often hardly believing what they are seeing.
