Andrićgrad
Description
Andrićgrad, also known as Kamengrad (Stone Town), is a unique stone town and cultural complex in Višegrad, on a peninsula at the confluence of the Drina and Rzav, just steps from the famous Višegrad bridge. It was conceived by the director Emir Kusturica as a town inspired by the work of the Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić. Opened to visitors in 2012, Andrićgrad is built entirely of stone and gathers around fifty buildings in a small area.
Its special charm lies in architecture that blends different eras – from Byzantine and Ottoman motifs through the Renaissance to classicism – so a walk along its main street feels like a journey through time. Within its walls are a theatre, a cinema, galleries, the Ivo Andrić Institute, a church, hotels, restaurants, cafés and a river marina. Today Andrićgrad is a favourite place for strolling, culture and relaxing by two rivers.
