Region description

This vast region includes the mountain massifs of Romanija, Jahorina, and Trebević, as well as the canyons of the Drina and Prača rivers. The administrative and university center is Istočno Sarajevo, a modern and dynamic city divided into several urban municipalities. The region's tourist highlight is Pale, the gateway to the Olympic beauty Jahorina, which is considered the best ski center in southeastern Europe. To the east lies Višegrad, made famous by Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić, with the Turkish bridge under UNESCO protection and the Andrićgrad cultural complex. The region is known for its rich forestry industry, medicinal herbs, and traditional products such as Romanija skorup-kajmak. The landscapes range from the Glasinač plateau to the emerald waters of the Drina, offering perfect conditions for winter sports, hiking, and cultural tourism.
