Bridge on the Drina

Description

The most famous attraction in Višegrad, near the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. One of the most important monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The bridge was built between 1571 and 1577 on the orders of Mehmed-Pasha Sokolović at the point where the road connecting Bosnia to Constantinople crossed above the Drina River. It was designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. It is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is inextricably linked to Ivo Andrić's novel "The Bridge on the Drina."
