Catholic Church of Saints Peter and Paul
Description
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Tešanj is a Catholic church in the Archdiocese of Vrhbosna in the municipality of Tešanj. It is located in Zvečaj, in the lower town of Tešanj's old city, about 200 meters east of the central urban area.
During his stay in BiH (1884–1921), based on preserved archival material in the Archdiocesan Archive in Sarajevo, architect Josip Vancaš designed, built, or expanded around 70 churches in the spirit of historicism, applying a wide range of styles: Neo-Gothic, Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Romanesque, Neo-Baroque, or combinations of these styles. In 1910, he also designed the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Tešanj.
It was partially restored in 1973, and a thorough renovation was carried out in the period 1998–2002.
