Strač Fortress

National Monument

4.0 km to the city center

Description

Above Trebinje, at 750 meters above sea level, Strač sleeps — the most mysterious Austro-Hungarian fortress in the Balkans. While other towers stand proudly upright, Strač defied the enemy with its grandeur, buried deep in the Herzegovinian karst. Today, its iron gun domes still defy the passage of time, silently bearing witness to the former power of the monarchy.

In addition to its fascinating architecture, Strač also offers the most beautiful view of Trebinje, Zupci and Petrovo polje. For lovers of history and photography, this is an essential stop that combines an engineering marvel with the rugged beauty of nature.
